FRIDAY PORCH PARTIES
- Free Admission!
- Locations in Artist Bios below
Note from the Festival Organizers to Party Participants
Welcome! Bring your lawn chair, bring your instrument, dress for the elements, come to any or all of the parties. We set these up so people of Edgewater could relax and enjoy the festivities in a more intimate setting, but everyone is welcome - no admission charge.
We don't want hosts to be overwhelmed, so please respect their hospitality. This feature of the festival is evolving, in a neighbourly spirit. There may be other unadvertised private porch parties around town too on Friday night, but these are the five we have set up. If a particular one is overfull, enjoy the park, a walking tour of Edgewater, or a quick bite at the Legion, instead – and move on to the next one.
Snack Time? Through the whole evening, the Edgewater Legion will be hosting their famous Friday Wing Night and cash bar. Stop there for a while to fuel up, or order take-out wings to bring along to the next party. Eric from Valley Dawgs will be set up with his little hot dog cart near the Post Office.
ARTIST BIOS
Nathan Pascua
Party 1 - 4:00-4:45 @ Edgewater Hilltop 5585 highway 95
Nathan was an entertainer back in the Philippines beginning in 2005, turning professional in 2009. His music ranges from rock, blues, country, reggae, and jazz He can be found performing gigs and events like weddings, birthdays, private events in and around Invermere BC and neighbouring locales.
Combo Akimbo
Party 2 - 5:15-6:00 @ Kelly Beingessner 4864 Purcell Ave
Combo Akimbo is a long time valley band that has played in and around the valley, and BC, for decades. Featuring Kurt Reichel on guitar and vocals, Brian Hoffos on sax, Deb Ede on vocals, all held accountable by Barry Wiseman on drums. The band plays a variety of music from old favourites to original tunes written by Kurt. While they specialize in smooth and mellow, they also enjoy movers and shakers…all wrapped up with good humour and fun.
The Prospectres
Party 3 - 6:30-7:15 @ Edgewater Legion 4858 Cordillera Ave
The Prospectres are a band of benevolent spectres, digging for nuggets of lyrical stories found between the lines. Influenced by both the past and the present, their sound is a mix of upbeat folk, witty western, Canadiana, blues, that creeping sensation you get in the deep dark woods, & more of the strangely familiar. The majority of their set consists of original songs, with a few carefully chosen covers found off-the-beaten-path (some dating back to the 1930s). Theatrical use of instruments are traits unique to the band (with a mix of guitar, banjo, and fiddle as the bedrock – with surprising oddities making appearances, such as the kazoo, accordion, trumpet, or soft-shoe dancing). The Prospectres' aim is for audience enthralment, through unique stage presence, toe-tapping rhythms, and beguiling lyrics. Invermere, BC is their home, and the Columbia Valley is their haunting ground.
Vs The World
Party 4 - 7:15-8:30:15 @ Mike Gray 4893 Hewitt Rd
It seems the world is constantly in conflict, at war some would say. Whether it be for money, power or social status, the heat is on. It can also be found in our heads or even in music. A clash of rhythm and tempo, fighting for the top spot, only for momentarily lapses of reason that fall into a full synchronicity. Is it Punk? Is it Rock? Is it Funk? Hell no, It's Vs The World Baby!!!
Team Rockitt
Party 5 - 9:00-10:00 @ Dave and Julie's 5902 Columbia Rd
Prepare for... Blast off! Team Rockitt is a dynamic trouble trio with all members contributing in writing their own songs, with some members even switching instruments, to give you a fresh take on nostalgic grunge and metal. The only thing left to ask is... Are you ready to Rockitt?
Acoustic Jam Circle
Party 6 - 10:00-11:00 @ Dave and Julie's 5902 Columbia Rd
The acoustic jam is open to everyone and follows the performance at the last porch party (same location). A laid back way to end the night. It’s basically a circle of chairs and everyone brings whatever instruments they want.
